MercyOne Medical Centers across Iowa have received a total of 17 American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® and Mission: Lifeline® achievement awards for demonstrating a commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.

UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s and UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s – Downtown have both received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain  ̶  MI Registry in Gold and Platinum Performance Achievement Awards for 2026. Both Sioux City hospitals are among 1,319 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

People who live in rural communities live an average of three years fewer than urban counterparts and have a 40% higher likelihood of developing heart disease and face a 30% increased risk for stroke mortality, according to an American Heart Association’s presidential advisory on rural health.
