Iowa Governor Signs Patients First Legislation Supported by Iowa Hospital Association
The Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) today celebrated Governor Kim Reynolds’ signing of HF2635, the Patients First insurance reform bill, a major piece of legislation championed by Iowa hospitals and health systems. The new law is designed to improve patient access to care and reduce unnecessary administrative burdens that delay treatment.

Rural Health Funding Awards Announced Through Iowa Healthy Hometowns Project
Gov. Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services announced this afternoon more than $78.6 million in new funding awards through two competitive grants under the Iowa Healthy Hometowns Project, part of the federal CMS Rural Health Transformation Program. Iowa is the first state in the nation to award funding under this program.

Held during National Hospital Week, the live, virtual event focused on building the workforce of the future by making young Iowans aware of six high-demand health care occupations across the state: physician, nurse, radiology technologist, respiratory therapist, lab technologist and behavioral health care.

Mercy Cedar Rapids to open freestanding ER in Marion next month
Mercy Cedar Rapids will open the area’s largest freestanding emergency room Monday, Dec. 2. A ribbon-cutting and community open house is scheduled for Nov. 15-16. The new emergency room is next to MercyCare Marion Family Practice and MercyCare Marion Urgent Care.

Applications Now Open for IHERF Education Scholarships
The Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation, a subsidiary of the Iowa Hospital Association, will award 60 postsecondary health care scholarships of up to $3,000 per year (two years maximum) and $1,000 to students enrolling in emergency medical technology/technician certification programs.
