Rural Health Funding Awards Announced Through Iowa Healthy Hometowns Project
Gov. Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services announced this afternoon more than $78.6 million in new funding awards through two competitive grants under the Iowa Healthy Hometowns Project, part of the federal CMS Rural Health Transformation Program. Iowa is the first state in the nation to award funding under this program.
HHS awarded grants in two categories:
Medical Equipment Procurement and Installation
Total estimated awards: $66,002,161.76
36 hospitals and health systems received awards
Examples of awarded equipment include:
MRI, CT, PET/CT, SPECT and digital X-ray systems
Digital mammography with advanced compliance features
da Vinci 5 robotic systems, Mako robotic‑arm surgery systems and Ion robotic bronchoscopy
A linear accelerator for radiation therapy and an Olympus endoscopy system
Health Care Workforce Recruitment
Total estimated awards: $12,600,000.00
107 awards granted to hospitals, community health centers and other rural providers
Examples of awarded positions include:
Nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwives and certified registered nurse anesthetists
Physician assistants in primary care, pediatrics and surgical specialties
Physicians in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, OB/GYN, psychiatry, surgery and cardiology
Radiology and behavioral health professionals
Registered nurses across clinical and specialty areas
