As Moorhead continues to grow, Essentia Health is excited to announce plans for a new family medicine clinic in downtown Moorhead. The clinic will expand care options for patients in the nearby neighborhood and improve access to primary care for the broader Moorhead community. Moorhead council member Lisa Borgen and Downtown Moorhead, Inc. President Matt Leiseth joined Essentia Health leaders on Friday to celebrate the announcement at the site of the future clinic, the former Wells Fargo building at 730 Center Ave.

“Essentia Health is incredibly proud to provide care for patients in Moorhead, and we are constantly looking for ways to better serve our communities. This new clinic represents a fantastic opportunity to provide more convenient, comprehensive care, while ensuring we’re able to meet the needs of this growing community,” said Dr. Stefanie Gefroh, Essentia Health West Market president. “We are especially grateful for the support from the City of Moorhead and look forward to working together to build a healthier community and vibrant downtown.”

Essentia currently operates a walk-in clinic in downtown Moorhead and a family medicine clinic on Highway 75 south of Interstate 94. To meet the community’s need for expanded primary care options, the new downtown clinic will include primary and walk-in care.

The first phase of the project will include building an 8,100-square-foot family medicine clinic, including 10 exam rooms, one procedural room and laboratory and radiology services, inside the existing building at 730 Center Ave. The former bank space will allow Essentia to continue exploring opportunities to expand services based on evolving community needs.

“We are thrilled to welcome Essentia Health to the downtown neighborhood! By transforming this building and operating health services here, Essentia Health will become a cornerstone of our downtown,” said Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson. “This new clinic represents more than a building. Healthcare is essential community infrastructure. Essentia Health is making a commitment to the health and vitality of Moorhead and we are grateful.”

Renovations on the current building are expected to begin later this year, with the goal of seeing patients in the new clinic by summer 2027.

Friday’s announcement of the new clinic follows a collaboration last fall between Essentia Health and the City of Moorhead that resulted in a transformative donation from Essentia to sponsor The Loop, the future home of the Moorhead Public Library and Community Center, as well as enhancements to the River Corridor Trail.
