Mercy Cedar Rapids to open freestanding ER in Marion next month

Mercy Cedar Rapids will open the area’s largest freestanding emergency room Monday, Dec. 2. A ribbon-cutting and community open house is scheduled for Nov. 15-16. The new emergency room is next to MercyCare Marion Family Practice and MercyCare Marion Urgent Care

The emergency room will have 12 examination rooms, two trauma rooms, laboratory and imaging services, and a helipad.

This will be Mercy's second off-site, hospital-based extension of its Emergency Department. Mercy’s Hiawatha emergency room opened in 2020 and was the first emergency room in Iowa to be available outside a hospital.
