Buffett Cancer Center Offers New Pancreatic Cancer Therapy Daraxonrasib
Patients at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center now have access to a promising new therapy that has generated national attention for its potential to improve outcomes for people with advanced pancreatic cancer. Patients with previously treated metastatic pancreatic cancer can receive daraxonrasib through an Expanded Access Program (EAP), providing an opportunity to receive the investigational therapy while it awaits review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Two More Cruise Ship Passengers Depart National Quarantine Unit
After spending more than four weeks at the National Quarantine Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, two former passengers from the MV Hondius have returned to their home states for continued monitoring under the jurisdiction of their local and state public health departments. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requested the individuals from the cruise ship associated with a Hantavirus remain at the NQU through Sunday, May 31. Ten of the former passengers have now left the unit.

Nebraska Medicine Performs First Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement on a Nebraska Patient
The Interventional Cardiology team at Nebraska Medicine performed the first Transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) in Nebraska, avoiding the need for open-heart surgery. The new device (FDA approved in December 2025), allows for the minimally invasive procedure to be an alternative to a much higher risk surgery. All of this is done via a catheter inserted into a small incision in the groin.

Nebraska Medicine and UNMC Asked to Monitor U.S. Citizens Following Cruise Ship Hantavirus Outbreak
Nebraska Medicine and the University of Nebraska Medical Center have been asked by federal partners to receive and monitor U.S. citizens from the cruise ship associated with a hantavirus outbreak. These individuals will be observed in the National Quarantine Unit, located on the campus of Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC.
