UNMC Medical Students’ Match Day for Residency Placements Set for March 21 at New Venue
WHAT: Medical students from the University of Nebraska Medical Center will learn their residency assignments on Match Day, joining their counterparts at schools nationwide to learn for the first time where they will be studying their chosen specialties following graduation.
WHERE: The event will be held at the Omaha Design Center, 1502 Cuming St., Omaha.
WHEN: Doors will open at 10 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m.
MEDIA OPPORTUNITUES: Members of the media are invited to attend the event and speak to students and their families about their matches, their time at UNMC and their hopes and plans. UNMC College of Medicine leaders also will be on hand. Approximately 125 students will be matching at the event.
Medical students also are available for interviews prior to Match Day. Possible student feature stories include:
A student who was diagnosed with a brain tumor while an undergraduate and whose oncologist inspired them to pursue a career in radiation oncology.
A student whose great-grandfather, grandfather and father all graduated from the UNMC College of Medicine.
A student who is dyslexic, who is graduating medical school and has used their experience to mentor younger medical students who struggle with dyslexia as well.
A couple who is matching in surgery who first met in the anatomy lab.
A first-generation student who was mentored by a local doctor in North Platte, Nebraska. Without his support, the student would never have considered becoming a physician.
