UNMC Match Day Ceremony Set for Friday at Omaha Design Center

The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine’s Match Day ceremony will be held at the Omaha Design Center on Friday, March 20.

WHAT: 124 medical students from the University of Nebraska Medical Center will learn their residency assignments on Match Day, joining their counterparts at schools nationwide to learn for the first time where they will be studying their chosen specialties following graduation.

WHERE: The event will be held at the Omaha Design Center, 1502 Cuming St., Omaha.

WHEN: Friday, March 20. Doors will open at 10 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. Envelopes will be opened and matches revealed at 11 a.m.

MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES: Members of the media are invited to attend the event and speak to students and their families about their matches, their time at UNMC and their hopes and plans. UNMC College of Medicine leaders also will be on hand. Interviewees will be available before the ceremony begins and briefly after the ceremony ends.

Medical students also are available for interviews prior to Match Day. Possible student feature stories include:

  • A student who will be joining the Air Force as a resident and plans to practice as a family medicine physician in the Navy.

  • A student who has epilepsy and is pursuing neurology in part due to the curiosity sparked by their condition, as well as their experiences as a patient.

  • A student who grew up on a Nebraska ranch and discovered a passion for rural health during Peace Corps service in Nepal.

  • Two first-generation college students, and others with personal stories, also will be available.
