Brake for Breakfast: North Platte Drive-Thru Event Provides Free Breakfast and Cancer Screening Resources

It's a drive-thru breakfast serving up more than just food. Brake for  Breakfast, a popular event pioneered by Nebraska Medicine | Fred & Pamela Buffett  Cancer Center, is coming to North Platte for the first time, hosted locally by Great Plains  Health.

Volunteers will hand out free breakfast to drivers, encouraging them to learn about  important cancer screenings. Those taking part will receive information on when and  how to get evaluated for cancer. You can also find information on cancer  screenings here.

This statewide initiative expands to 10 Nebraska communities this year. The North  Platte event is hosted by Great Plains Health in partnership with Nebraska Extension in  Lincoln, Logan and McPherson Counties, the West Central District Health Department,  and Chick-fil-A, who is generously donating breakfast.

"Early detection saves lives," said program director Rachael Schmidt. "Brake for  Breakfast brings screening awareness directly to communities in a convenient,  welcoming format."

On Friday, April 24, volunteers will be ready to greet drivers at the Pizza Ranch parking  lot, 201 E. 6th St., North Platte, from 7 to 9 a.m., or while supplies last. Those attending  won't even have to leave their cars to collect their breakfast and information.
