Intercultural Senior Center Clinic to Broaden Healthcare Access for Metro-Area Seniors
Seniors in the Metro will soon have more convenient access to primary healthcare starting late this month with the addition of a new medical clinic at the Intercultural Senior Center. More than 2,000 seniors participate in the Intercultural Senior Center’s programming each year. In 2022, the center coordinated nearly 900 medical appointments and delivered more than 300 medications to senior homes.
“It is a great honor for the Intercultural Senior Center to partner with CHI Health and the Creighton University School of Medicine,” said Intercultural Senior Center Clinic Founding Executive Director, Carolina Padilla. “This is just the beginning of a unique geriatric clinic to care for the diverse, older population of our community that attends our center. This will allow these individuals to receive more services and programs that will improve their wellbeing.”
The new medical clinic will be open to patients of the Intercultural Senior Center on the third Friday of every month starting July 18th. Services include blood pressure checks, immunizations, medication management, and referrals. The clinic will charge five dollars to Intercultural Senior Center patients for an appointment and offer many low cost medications.
CHI Health Healthy Communities is proud to fund the clinic start-up. The clinic will be staffed by Creighton University School of Medicine residents. Dr. Naureen Rafiq, CHI Health Family Medicine Physician and Associate Professor in the Creighton School of Medicine Residency Program, will serve as the Clinic’s Medical Director.
“The medical clinic will be an important source of care for seniors participating in the Intercultural Senior Center’s programs,” said Dr. Rafiq. “Medical students will provide high quality care, while also gaining experience working with geriatric patients.”
