Medical Staff and Telemedicine: Meeting CMS CoPs and Overview

Any hospital that accepts Medicare and Medicaid payments must comply with regulations known as the Conditions of Participation (CoPs). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) hospital CoPs have sections on all aspects of patient care, including medical staff and telemedicine. This webinar will discuss the governing body and medical staff sections of the CoPs manual in relation to requirements and oversight. Although telemedicine has been a factor in health care for many years, COVID-19 gave it a larger role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This session will discuss standards for acute care hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, and rural emergency hospitals participating in telemedicine. Finally, attendees will learn what provisions should be included in a telemedicine contract.

2025 CMS Compliance Requirements: Infection Prevention and Control and ASP

A hospital must have an active infection control program throughout the facility to track, prevent and control infectious diseases, including Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). Additionally, the hospital must have a program for the optimization of antibiotic use through stewardship. This program will discuss the changes the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) made to the infection control standards in 2019, as well as the interpretive guidelines developed in July 2022. The program will cover what a hospital must have in place to comply with the regulations, such as the qualifications of the infection preventionist, a hospital-wide antibiotic stewardship program, and nationally recognized infection control standards. This webinar will also cover the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) procedures for cleaning and disinfecting reusable medical devices and will provide training resources.
Special Services: CMS Swing Bed and Psychiatric Services CoPs

This webinar will focus on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation (CoPs) swing bed and psychiatric services requirements for acute care hospitals. In 2019, CMS updated the swing bed requirements and made changes to the State Operations Manual by incorporating psychiatric hospital requirements into Appendix A. In 2018, CMS incorporated swing bed requirements and interpretive guidelines from Appendix T into Appendix A. This session will address both areas of specialized services.
