UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Nurse Receives LEGACI Award From Iowa Donor Network On Blue & Green Day

UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s nurse, Natalie Engle, received the LEGACI Award for clinical excellence from the Iowa Donor Network (IDN) on Friday, April 14 in observance of Blue & Green Day. Engle and the rest of the St. Luke’s team were presented the award by John Jorgensen, donation services coordinator for the Iowa Donor Network, for going above and beyond to collaborate with IDN to ensure their mission of “transforming lives through organ and tissue donation.”

“To receive the LEGACI Award in this category, hospitals may display clinical excellence by maintaining overall compliance rates, requester rates, consults and input or guidance on donation-related policies,” said Jorgensen. “The staff work with us during donation events to demonstrate the ability to optimize the number of organs transplanted per donor and consistently meet donor management goals.”

The award was presented during a flag-raising event at St. Luke’s which team members attended in blue and green apparel to support both Donate Life Month and the ICU department.

“We are tremendously proud of Natalie and the rest of the ICU team for continuing our mission and vision of patient care,” said Wendy Lindley, Chief Nursing Officer at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s. “Our team members to work as one team across all departments and regions – that’s what this award represents.”

Earlier this month St. Luke’s and IDN joined MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center and Sioux City Fire Rescue in a flag-raising event at Station 4.

Donate Life Month celebrations have been held at hospitals, EMS agencies and driver’s license stations across Iowa throughout April. For more information about Iowa Donor Network activities visit IowaDonorNetwork.org.
