UnityPoint Health – Sioux City Takes Initial Step Toward Open-Heart Surgery Program
UnityPoint Health – Sioux City has taken the first important step toward building an open-heart surgery program by submitting the required paperwork for Certificate of Need (CON) to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), expanding access to advanced cardiovascular care in Siouxland. Building the program is a complex process that will require regulatory approvals and the recruitment of a highly qualified cardiothoracic surgeon before services begin.
“We are excited to begin building an open-heart surgery program in Sioux City,” said Jane Arnold, Market President of UnityPoint Health – Sioux City. “This is an important investment in our community. While it will take time to meet regulatory requirements and recruit the right surgeon, our goal is to provide the highest quality, safest care possible and keep patients close to home.”
Currently, UnityPoint Health – Sioux City offers comprehensive cardiovascular services at its North and Downtown campuses, including general cardiology, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, vascular surgery, cardiac testing, procedures and rehabilitation. This new program supports UnityPoint Health’s focus on access, quality and delivering an exceptional patient experience. It advances our cardiovascular service line while reinforcing our commitment to safe, high-quality, patient-centered care close to home—now and in the future. The program will build upon UnityPoint Health’s established open-heart expertise in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Waterloo and the Quad Cities.
