The Iowa Clinic Announces Advancements in Cancer Care

The Iowa Clinic announced today, four highly experienced Central Iowa-based oncologists will be joining The Iowa Clinic. The Iowa Clinic has been a fixture in cancer care since its inception in 1994, providing diagnostic and surgical care for a variety of cancers.

With these hires, hematology and oncology will be added to their list of cancer-related specialties which include pathology, radiology, surgical oncology, breast surgery and gynecological oncology, among others. The physicians will see patients in 5,000 square feet of space at the Clinic’s West Lakes campus starting in approximately January 2025. This addition marks a significant milestone in their commitment to providing exceptional cancer care right here in Central Iowa.

“At The Iowa Clinic, we believe that cancer care should be comprehensive, coordinated and locally accessible,” said Ben Vallier, CEO of The Iowa Clinic. “By bringing top-tier hematology and oncology services to The Iowa Clinic, we will ensure our patients receive the highest quality of care in a familiar and supportive environment.”

Recent information released by the Iowa Cancer Registry demonstrates that Iowa has the fastest-growing rate of new cancers and the second-highest rate of new cancers in the country, thus the development of comprehensive cancer care is key to preparing for the future. This data underscores the urgency for increased capacity and treatment options for cancer care.

“We are excited to welcome these talented physicians to our Clinic,” says Dr. Jason Mohr, Iowa Clinic pulmonologist and Board of Directors Co-Chair. “Most importantly, the addition of hematology and oncology and soon, radiation therapy, will further our ability to deliver on our vision of being a leading force for healthy lives in Iowa.”

Outpatient care is often more accessible, easier to navigate and less costly for patients. According to Medicare, in addition to convenience, patients receiving care in an outpatient setting can experience savings anywhere from 15 to 30 percent compared to receiving those same services in a hospital setting.
