Since its establishment as a non-profit corporation in 1973, CFM has been home to the Sioux Falls Family Medicine Residency program (SFFMP) a program jointly and equally sponsored by Avera and Sanford It has trained more than 425 physicians, including nearly 40 percent of all board-certified family physicians in South Dakota.

The Sioux Falls and Pierre Rural Family Medicine Residency welcome eleven new doctors to their program as part of 2023 Match Day. Match Day is held every year on the third Friday in March where Medical Students discover where they will be headed for Residency or Fellowship.

Tom Huber, MD, is used to being something of a pioneer in South Dakota medicine. The long-time Pierre physician was among the first residents to graduate from the Sioux Falls Family Practice Residency program some 40 years ago.
