2021 South Dakota Nurses Association Annual Convention Honored The Year of the Nurse 2020-2021, Honored South Dakota Nurses, and Celebrated Newly Elected Officers

The South Dakota Nurses Association recognized nurses from across the state at its 2021 Convention and Annual Business Meeting on Oct. 3 and 4. The convention and business meeting were to be held in Box Elder, South Dakota, but the association moved the event to an online platform due to the outbreak of the Delta variant of COVID-19. The two-day, 2021 convention focused on “The Year of the Nurse 2020-2021.” The following nurses were recognized by their respective SDNA district for his or her contributions to the SDNA and the nursing profession. 

District 1, 2, 3 – 2021 Convention Committee, Rapid City

District 4 – Ashley Herauf, Aberdeen

District 10 – Gala Woitte, Sioux Falls

District 8 & 9 – Venita Winterboer, Brookings

District 11 – Helene Hegge, Crofton, NE

Election results were given at the Annual Business Meeting. The terms are for 2 years. Newly elected members and their position:

President – Deb Fischer Clemens, Sioux Falls

Vice-President – Kay Foland, Rapid City

Treasurer – Sara Watson, Huron

Nominations Committee – Mary Anne Krogh, Brookings; Melissa McMillen, Yankton

The goal of the SDNA Annual Convention is to offer a forum for nurses to gain knowledge about clinical care, leadership, and professional practice issues and to build professional relationships. The South Dakota Nurses Association is a statewide not-for-profit professional association representing Registered Nurses in South Dakota. It is a constituent member of the American Nurses Association. 

The 2022 Convention and Annual Business Meeting will be held in Sioux Falls on Oct. 2-3, 2022. The theme will be "Better Together: Nurses and Communities." A convention facility is currently being selected.
