Why I chose my specialty: I chose internal medicine for its intellectual depth and the opportunity to manage complex multisystem diseases. Through early exposure to endoscopy and research, I developed a strong interest in gastroenterology for its unique blend of procedural and clinical skills, along with opportunities for innovation. While an internist at heart, I am drawn to this subspecialty to offer better patient care with gastrointestinal diseases which contribute to a high healthcare burden in our community.

Why I'm a member of SDSMA: SDSMA has been a meaningful part of my journey as a resident, offering a platform to connect with peers and mentors. It has actively supported my professional and academic growth through opportunities in publishing, collaboration and advocacy. As I transition to fellowship, I see myself continuing this journey through the help of SDSMA to further contribute to the medical community and patients of South Dakota.
