Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center Expanding Services At Perham Health
Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center at Perham Health is celebrating the expansion of space and services, bringing comprehensive cancer care closer to home for more patients in the region.
In August 2022, the Roger Maris Cancer Center, in partnership with Perham Health, celebrated a significant milestone in its mission to provide specialized cancer care closer to home for patients with the opening of a chemotherapy infusion center.
At its inception, the center featured two infusion chairs, strategically poised for future expansion. In just one year, the program has expanded its capacity, now featuring a total of seven infusion chairs, and welcomed a new cancer care provider. With the increased demand for cancer care services in rural communities, it became apparent enhanced capacity was needed to ensure that everyone has access to the highest quality of cancer care and support closer to home.
“Access to specialized cancer care in rural communities has historically been limited, forcing patients to endure arduous journeys in pursuit of treatment,” said Chuck Hofius, Perham Health CEO. “These travel challenges can not only introduce delays in treatment but also impose significant emotional and financial strains on patients and their families. By extending the reach of cancer treatment services, we aim to alleviate this burden, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their geographic location, can access high-quality care within their local community.”
Patients not only receive life-saving treatment, but also benefit from the array of resources offered by the Roger Maris Cancer Center. The nurse navigator program streamlines care coordination across various specialties, ensuring comprehensive and well-coordinated treatment plans. Recognizing the physical and emotional toll of cancer treatment, patients are provided a wide range of survivorship support services, alleviating the challenges of lengthy commutes and exhausting treatments.
“The Roger Maris Cancer Center shines as a beacon of cancer care in the upper Midwest,” said Kim Wolf, Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center director. “With decades of experience and unwavering dedication to enhancing the lives of cancer patients, we’re thrilled to expand on these services to Perham and the surrounding communities.”
The Roger Maris Cancer Center is transforming the future of cancer care with their world-class, comprehensive and family-centered care, achieving some of the best cancer survival rates in the country thanks to the advanced treatment options achieved through Sanford Research clinical trials.
