Robot Brings New Technology To Hastings Orthopaedics

Robots in surgery are nothing new. But when you combine a digitally precise robotic assistant with an experienced surgeon, you have the recipe for knee replacements tailored to a shorter recovery time.

Dr. Brent Hood with Hastings Orthopaedics is now using the VELYSTM Robotic-Assisted Solution, the latest advancement in knee replacement. Dr. Hood has been performing knee replacements at Mary Lanning Healthcare for nine years. He is excited about adding robotic technology.

“The robot is a tool for us as orthopaedic surgeons to continue to improve our outcomes and patients’ recovery,” Hood said. “The additional information provided during the surgery by the robot allows a surgeon to make subtle changes to the operative plan during the surgery, in the hopes of improved outcomes for the patient.”

The VELYSTM Robotic-Assisted Solution is used with the ATTUNE® Knee System, an implant designed to work closely with each individual’s anatomy.  The ATTUNE®  Knee System can help increase stability, reduce pain and provide a better range of motion, according to the company.

Dr. Hood is now using the robotic system as part of his arsenal of tools to help orthopaedic patients in central Nebraska. For more information on robotic-assisted knee surgery, or other procedures available, please contact Hastings Orthopaedics at 402-462-2139.
