Customs Kicking Cancer Promotes Prostate Cancer Awareness at 85th Annual Sturgis Rally
With more than 530,000 vehicles recorded at the 85th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which has a predominantly male attendance, the inaugural charity event Chrome For a Cause provided a powerful platform to create open dialogue about prostate cancer.
Leaders and volunteers of the Pittsburgh-based non-profit Customs Kicking Cancer distributed dozens of PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test kits at the rally, which allow for at-home screening for prostate cancer and other prostate conditions. Motorcycle icon Billy Lane of Choppers Inc. was in attendance and took his first PSA test kit after receiving one from Customs Kicking Cancer.
“The 2025 inaugural charity ride for Chrome For A Cause was a smashing success,” said Dan Lucas, founder of Customs Kicking Cancer. “We are so thankful for the amazing support we received from the South Dakota Department of Transportation, as they rallied and made sure our ride was safe and enjoyable. The staff and ownership at The Iron Horse Saloon/Broken Spoke embraced our cause from the very beginning and we both can't wait to grow this event for next year.”
Chrome For a Cause kicked off with a social event on August 5, which featured craft cocktails, curated bites, and a silent auction. This private event brought together industry leaders, riders, and motorcycle icons to celebrate the community driving this mission forward.
The event continued on August 6 with more than 100 motorcyclists participating in the Chrome For a Cause charity ride, which started at the iconic Iron Horse Saloon. These participants lined up to paint the Black Hills light blue, which represents prostate cancer awareness. The lineup was made of prostate cancer survivors, supporters, and some participants were in the midst of fighting cancer. The crew joined together as a powerful symbol of solidarity to make the conversation around prostate cancer awareness loud and visible in Sturgis. Following the ride were giveaways of a Louis Vuitton bum bag in signature prostate cancer light blue and a Honda Grom. In addition to motorcycle icon Billy Lane of Choppers Inc., Paul Teutul Sr. of Orange County Choppers was also in attendance and announced this year’s Honda Grom giveaway winner as Robert Evans of Tallahassee, Florida — a prostate cancer survivor himself!
More than 100 riders participated in the hour-long ride, and close to 200 people attended the meet and greet held at the Broken Spoke Saloon.
The Second Annual Chrome for a Cause event will take place at the 86th Annual Sturgis Rally in August of 2026 with a gala-style event at the Steel Pony Campgrounds in Sturgis ahead of a charity ride.
