MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center Experiences Baby Boom

MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center is experiencing a baby boom. The upward trend in births began shortly after Dr. May Yazeji's arrival in July 2024. Since her arrival, the hospital’s birth center has experienced a 194% increase in deliveries in fiscal year 2025 compared to fiscal year 2023. 

As the medical director of the Contemporary Obstetrics & Gynecology Women's Care Center at MercyOne Genesis in Silvis, Dr. May has helped develop the MercyOne Genesis Silvis campus into a center for women’s health care in the Illinois Quad Cities.

The Contemporary Obstetrics & Gynecology Women’s Care Center at MercyOne Genesis in Moline and Silvis focuses on obstetrics and gynecology services. From family planning and prenatal care to minimally invasive surgeries and menopause management, our providers offer advanced and compassionate care.

Baby deliveries by the numbers:

• FY 2023 - 153

• FY 2024 - 249

• FY 2025 - 451

• We anticipate over 800 deliveries in FY26, in addition to more than 400 GYN procedures, as we continue to grow as the women's health destination for care in Illinois. 

Building on Dr. May's success, MercyOne Genesis recently partnered with the Medical Arts OB/GYN group to move their offices from Rock Island to the MercyOne Genesis Larson Center in Silvis. Their new offices opened in July 2025. The physicians relocating to Silvis are Justin Hinzman, MD, OB/GYN; Karla Van Keulen, MD, OB/GYN; and Rhonda Freed, MD, GYN.

The 2025 addition of the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System platform to the Silvis campus has also helped spur growth, particularly in the OBGYN department and general surgery.
