Avera’s Matthew Stanley Named Chair-Elect of AHA Behavioral Health Committee

Matthew Stanley, DO, DFAPA, Clinical Vice President of the Avera Behavioral Health Service Line, was appointed as the chair-elect of the American Hospital Association (AHA) Committee on Behavioral Health Services.

Stanley began his term Jan. 1; he will serve until 2024.

The Committee on Behavioral Health Services plays an important role of actively advising the AHA on advocacy positions, public policy issues and member-service strategies related to behavioral health.

“It’s my honor to serve with so many nationally recognized professionals in this capacity,” Stanley said. “The committee will continue its focus on priorities within the AHA, including the integration of behavioral health services in a variety of care settings.”

Other significant efforts the committee addresses include:

  • Community partnerships, to help ensure health systems and social agencies can work together to help individuals and communities.

  • Stigma reduction, so that mental health care continues to be recognized as an integral part of holistic care.

  • Suicide prevention, to combat the tragic toll of this countrywide difficulty.
