New Emergency Department Director Appointed

Dr. Kevin Montgomery is now the medical director of the emergency department (ED) at Columbus Community Hospital.

Montgomery has taken over the position from Dr. Mark Howerter, who has been the ED director for more than 20 years. Howerter was named chief medical officer (CMO) of the hospital in 2023, and has been filling both roles for the past two years. He will now work full time as the CMO.

“Over the last 20 years, we have seen a lot of changes and progress in our ED,” said Howerter. “I am very proud of our ED and the level of care we provide. I think we hold our own, compared to any ED in the state.”

Montgomery has been working as the assistant director of the emergency department since Howerter transitioned into senior management. “I have every confidence Dr. Montgomery will expand on the vision and progress of our ED,” said Howerter.
