UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute to Host Virtual Reality Camp at 9 a.m. on July 31

WHAT: UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute is hosting a Hand Arm Bimanual Intensive Training (HABIT) Virtual Reality Camp. The camp is designed to allow children with cerebral palsy and other conditions to work on using both hands to complete a task through playing video games.

This year, through a collaboration with the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Department of Biomechanics, an added element will use sensors to track brain activity and stimulate muscle movement as campers play the games.

WHEN:  9 a.m. July 31

WHERE: Munroe-Meyer Institute, 6902 Pine St.

INTERVIEWS/VISUALS:

Interviews will be made available with:

  • Andrea Cunha, PhD, assistant professor in the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s Department of Physical Therapy

  • Ahad Behboodi, PhD, assistant professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Department of Biomechanics

  • Selected campers

Visuals will include campers taking part in virtual reality games.

NOTE: Because MMI is a HIPAA-compliant health services facility, there will be campers who cannot be photographed, filmed (even in background) or interviewed. MMI staff will identify these individuals for media. Media must please refrain from filming or photographing these individuals, even in large groups, while at MMI.

MMI staff members will provide visual opportunities that include campers whose families have agreed to let them participate in photographs, videos and interviews.

Media Parking:  Media may park in visitor parking to the east of the building.
