Mary Lanning Names Shanna Schmidt 2026 Caring Kind Nominee

Medication Management Specialist Shanna Schmidt recently was named the Mary Lanning Healthcare Caring Kind Award nominee for 2026.

She will be honored among nominees from other hospitals across the state at the Nebraska Hospital Association Annual Convention in LaVista. The October event features the annual Caring Kind Luncheon.

Schmidt was chosen from a group of several nominees for her work helping patients and community members through the Medication Assistance Program. In 2025, Shanna helped to save patients more than $5 million in medication costs.

According to her nomination, Schmidt "ensures the needs of the patients and families are met, is well-informed, dependable, responsive, offers support and contributes to a positive team environment." Described as an integral part of the Social Services team, Shanna is "always willing to lend a helping hand, offer thoughtful guidance and collaborate on new ideas." She helps "create a culture where everyone feels valued, appreciated and connected."

In addition, she is "incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of her job and rarely meets a challenge she cannot fix." Other words used to describe Schmidt were "exceptionally kind and genuine, true to her word and having a strong moral compass."

Shanna Stofer, MLH President & CEO, said she was excited to recognize Schmidt.

"It's clear that Shanna (Schmidt) is not only amazing at her job but she makes those around her feel valued," Stofer said. "Her dedication to helping others is truly extraordinary."
