Junior Wheelchair Sports & Recreation Camp Engages 30 Young Athletes

Wheelchair athletes from Iowa and Nebraska are taking part in the 35th annual Junior Wheelchair Sports and Recreation Camp this year. The week-long camp is held at the Iowa School for the Deaf’s Lied Multipurpose Complex and is put on by CHI Health Immanuel Rehabilitation Institute and Nebraska Adaptive Sports.

The camp is the only day camp in the area specifically for youth ages five through high school with a physical disability. It provides opportunities to both new and experienced wheelchair athletes to develop skills and an enthusiasm for sports and recreational activities. Athletes are exposed to a variety of sports and introduced to others in similar circumstances for competition, interaction, friendships and social development. For more experienced wheelchair athletes, the camp provides a competitive environment.
