Hospital Launches New Nurse Corps Program
Routine blood pressure checks are essential for any wellness plan. With regular checks, health care providers are not only able to detect medical issues early, but they can also work with patients to help lower their blood pressure if it’s too high. That’s why Columbus Community Hospital’s Occupational Health Services and the volunteer and guest services departments are proud to announce the new nurse corps program.
Hospital volunteers comprise the nurse corps team and serve as an extension of Occupational Health Services. The designated volunteers assist with blood pressure screenings at community- and employer-sponsored health fairs.
“We have worked to recruit the best and brightest of our retired nursing staff — those who worked both at CCH and Occupational Health Services,” said Danielle Frewing, Occupational Health Services director. “Since several of these nurses have worked for OHS previously, they have had an opportunity to build long-standing relationships with our clients and will be a familiar face at these events. We are very excited to provide this offering to our community, and we feel these volunteers will represent the hospital positively.”
The program currently consists of four volunteers. Dr. Dale Zaruba serves as the medical director and will provide the necessary program oversight.
The volunteer and guest services department has worked diligently with various hospital leaders to design the new program and train the volunteers. Each hospital volunteer underwent an application and interview process, background check, orientation and confidentiality training.
“These volunteers are nurses who have amazingly helpful personalities and loved their careers,” said Angie Ramaekers, director of volunteer and guest services at the hospital. “Now, they get to use their great experience, talents and training in this way.”
The program will officially begin in August, with volunteers attending wellness events as needed by the hospital and community partners.
