Global Nursing Excellence: CHI Health St. Elizabeth Among Six Hospitals Awarded Top Honor

CHI Health St. Elizabeth’s nursing care is being recognized on a global scale for the professionalism, teamwork, and superiority demonstrated in patient care. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has granted St. Elizabeth its fifth consecutive Magnet Designation and its first Magnet with Distinction® recognition - something only five other hospitals have achieved worldwide

“This is not only an incredible achievement for our nurses and staff here at St. Elizabeth, but this recognition reinforces to our patients and community that we are committed to providing the highest quality care,” said Jenny Stachura, CHI Health Nebraska/Iowa Market Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services at St. Elizabeth. “Research shows nurses who work at Magnet hospitals have higher job satisfaction, resulting in higher retention rates. That’s another win for our community.”

The Magnet Recognition Program is considered the highest nursing excellence designation a hospital can achieve and only the highest performing organizations receive Magnet with Distinction. That designation is reserved for hospitals that not only meet, but exceed the rigorous standards for nursing excellence.

A number of factors are looked at when designating a Magnet facility. These factors are deemed essential to delivering superior patient care and gauge an organization’s nursing excellence. These include quality of nursing leadership, coordination and collaboration across specialties, and processes for measuring and improving the quality and delivery of care.

These statistics help show the scale of what St. Elizabeth has achieved:

  • St. Elizabeth is the only Magnet hospital in Lincoln

  • There are 5 total Magnet hospitals in Nebraska

  • Only 9.6 percent of U.S. hospitals are Magnet

  • Only 1.3 percent of U.S. hospitals have achieved 5+ designations
