Essentia Health Begins Construction on Downtown Moorhead Clinic

Today, Essentia Health celebrated the start of construction for the new family medicine clinic in downtown Moorhead. Located at the former Wells Fargo building at 730 Center Ave., the new clinic will provide convenient access to care for the Moorhead community. Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson and Downtown Moorhead, Inc. President Matt Leiseth joined Essentia Health leaders to celebrate the project and highlight support from the city.

"Today marks an exciting step forward in our commitment to making personal, high-quality healthcare more convenient and accessible for the Moorhead community," said Dr. Stefanie Gefroh Ellison, Essentia Health West Market president. "We're honored to meet the needs of this growing community by bringing together a broad range of services in the heart of downtown. We're grateful for the City of Moorhead's partnership and look forward to welcoming patients next spring."

Essentia currently operates a walk-in clinic in downtown Moorhead and a family medicine clinic on Highway 75 south of Interstate 94. To meet the community's growing need for expanded primary care options, the new downtown clinic will include primary and urgent care, laboratory and radiology services, physical therapy and a pharmacy with drive-through access.

The construction project, a $9.5 million investment by Essentia, will transform the first floor of the former bank into a 12,500-square-foot clinic, including 10 exam rooms, one procedural room and laboratory and radiology services. The project is expected to be completed in May 2027. The space will allow Essentia to explore opportunities to expand services based on evolving community needs.

"We're thrilled to see this building come to life again and to welcome Essentia Health as a key part of our downtown's next chapter," said Mayor Carlson. "Transforming this space into a modern family medicine clinic is a win for everyone. It brings accessible care right into the heart of Moorhead and adds new energy to a corridor that's rapidly growing and changing. This project strengthens our community, supports our families and reflects Essentia's long term commitment to Moorhead. We are grateful for their investment and excited to see this building become a place that helps our residents thrive."

Essentia received support for this project from the city as part of the city's efforts to revitalize the downtown Moorhead corridor. The clinic follows a collaboration last fall between Essentia Health and the City of Moorhead that resulted in a transformative donation from Essentia to sponsor The Loop, the home of the Moorhead Public Library and Community Center, as well as enhancements to the River Corridor Trail.
