Dr. Tara Sjuts Serves as Columbus’ Specialist in Psychology
Dr. Tara Sjuts
At Columbus Community Hospital, our doctors are an incredibly important part of our community — which is why “community” is our middle name.
One local doctor who consistently delivers the best for our area is behavioral pediatric psychologist Dr. Tara Sjuts with Columbus Psychiatry Clinic.
Sjuts treats children, teens and families. Her approach is often family-based, teaching families how they can promote positive behaviors and skills and build supportive parent-child relationships. She uses a wide range of therapeutic strategies to match what each person or family needs, including elements of parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), as well as lifestyle changes to support healthy sleep, diet, and exercise. Sjuts also performs psychological evaluations and assessments — most often for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism.
Sjuts says she feels it’s her calling to help families thrive.
“It takes a village to raise kids,” she said, “and I love to be part of the village for these kids and families — and to be a support for parents. I love seeing family relationships grow stronger, and watching kids and teens find resilience and thrive at home and school.”
Sjuts says she and her husband decided to move back to Columbus so they could give their own kids the opportunities that a smaller town provides. They knew they wanted a greater sense of community, and moving here also allowed them to be closer to their parents.
She chose to practice at CCH because she values collaboration and teamwork.
“CCH offers the advantage of feeling like a close-knit community of providers, while still being large enough to deliver excellent resources to patients and families,” Sjuts said.
“The longer I have been here, the more I have gotten to know other providers across different fields on a more personal level,” she added. “I truly care for the families I work with, and being part of the same community means I sometimes get to see their successes firsthand. That is a true blessing for me.”
Columbus Community Hospital’s caregivers embrace the shared values and enhance the lives of those they are proud to call friends and neighbors — right here, in the heart of our community.
