Columbus Psychiatry Clinic Announces New Partnership With University Of Nebraska Medical Center
Columbus Community Hospital and Columbus Psychiatry Clinic are proud to announce their newest partnership with the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Beginning this month, the outpatient clinic will serve as the primary teaching venue for fourth-year psychiatry residents at UNMC under the direct supervision of Dr. Venkata Kolli.
“We are excited to collaborate with the faculty and colleagues at the University of Nebraska Medical Center to help prepare residents for highly rewarding careers in psychiatry,” said Korie Whitmore, director of clinics for the hospital.
Dr. Emily Royer is the first of three residents to join the clinic as part of the program. During their rotation, each resident will complete an eight-week stay. They will work side by side with Kolli to perform diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy and treatment, and help manage patients’ medication.
“I’m excited to gain experience in an outpatient clinic setting and learn from Dr. Kolli,” Royer said. “He has been an amazing mentor to me already, and I look forward to continuing to learn from him throughout my residency.”
Kolli said establishing the residency program benefits the hospital and community. Furthermore, having a third physician in the clinic will help reduce mental health access issues and lower health disparities.
“As a rural community, recruiting good physicians has always been a struggle,” Kolli said. “This program will lead to more successful partnerships and continue to benefit the Columbus community.
The program also helps the hospital train the next generation of psychiatrists, which ensures access to high-quality care, close to home.

We are extremely excited to work with a group that shares the common goals of growing talented psychiatrists to benefit future generations.”
