Columbus Community Hospital Sets Mead Family Cancer Center Opening

Columbus Community Hospital invites community members and local businesses to celebrate the opening of its new Mead Family Cancer Center, 4600 38th St., with a ribbon cutting and open house on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m.

“Seeing the Mead Family Cancer Center become a reality is both exciting and rewarding,” said Ashley Carlson, the center’s director. “This project represents an incredible investment in the health and well-being of our community.”

The event begins with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by an open house. During the open house, guests can tour the facility throughout the day until 7 p.m. to meet staff, explore the space and learn more about the services offered.

The hospital has continued to share regular updates on the construction process since the initial groundbreaking in May 2025. Hospital leaders and Mead family members say they are looking forward to seeing the facility completed.

“What started as a vision to pursue excellence in cancer care, collaboration and patient experience is now a reality through the design, services and people of the Mead Family Cancer Center,” said radiation oncologist Dr. Christopher Veale. “We are so grateful to everyone who has been a part of this endeavor, and it is a blessing to care for people in Columbus and our region.”

The new center is designed to support patients and families throughout their care journey by bringing cancer services together in a modern, welcoming environment and expanding access to care across the region.

“For years, our vision has been to provide patients and families with access to comprehensive, high-quality cancer care closer to home,” said Michael Hansen, president and CEO of Columbus Community Hospital. “We are grateful to the Mead family, our donors and our partners whose support helped make the Mead Family Cancer Center possible.”
