Columbus Community Hospital Hosts Diabetes Awareness Day Oct. 22
If you want to learn more about diabetes, Columbus Community Hospital has just the event for you. Diabetes Awareness Day, in association with the Living Swell event, takes place from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Columbus Fieldhouse. The event will include a cooking demonstration, informational booths and free and discounted screenings and immunizations.
Below are the screenings and immunizations that will be available from 4-7 p.m.:
A1c - $20
Fingerstick glucose – $10
Bone mineral density – free
Blood pressure – free
Influenza immunization - $30
Prevnar 20 (pneumonia) vaccine - $250
Screenings will be provided by the hospital's Occupational Health Services department. For the A1c screenings, please call ahead at 402-562-4480 to register.
Informational sessions include:
4:15-5:15 p.m. - "Enhancing Lifestyle Choices Alongside GLP-1 Medications" by Dr. Luke Lemke, Columbus Medical Center
5:30-6:30 p.m. – Cooking demonstration by the National Pork Producers Council
Marina Channer, a certified diabetes care and educational specialist at the hospital, said the event is part of the hospital's continuing effort to provide diabetes education to the public.
"At Columbus Community Hospital, we believe that education is a vital part of managing diabetes," Channer said. "Join us for Diabetes Awareness Day to empower yourself with knowledge, resources and support to lead a healthier and more fulfilling life."
The hospital, in partnership with the YMCA, is also hosting Living Swell: Live Longer and Stronger on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 4-8 p.m. at the Columbus Fieldhouse.
This event gives community members an opportunity to learn about healthcare products, services and new offerings from more than 20 area businesses. All ages are welcome.
"Occupational Health Services is excited to partner with our hospital's diabetes education team to offer a combined community health fair event through Living Swell and Diabetes Awareness Day," said Danielle Frewing, the hospital's director of Occupational Health Services. "By bringing our resources and expertise together, we can provide community members with even more valuable information, screenings and educational opportunities to support their health and wellness."
