Columbus Community Hospital’s Prairie Wind Café is a Symbol of Health

Columbus Community Hospital’s Prairie Wind Café give patients, staff and guests a plethora of healthy options when visiting the hospital – just look at the symbols. Each week, the hospital’s nutrition services department handcrafts a menu to include numerous healthful options and labels them accordingly. Just look at the top of each weekly menu posted either outside the café or on the hospital’s website, for the weekly option. Such options include:

  • Heart-healthy

  • Spicy

  • Gluten-free

  • Vegetarian

  • Vegan

According to Trina Benedict, nutrition services office manager, each menu tries to offer many different healthy options for a variety of people.

“Each menu is created with healthy options in mind,” Benedict said. “We want those that come to the Prairie Wind Café to come away feeling good and healthy. We want to provide them with nutritious meals that taste great and are cost-effective.”

The café is open from 6:30 a.m.-6:45 p.m. Monday-Friday, and from 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a menu featuring homemade soups, salads, desserts and entrees. It also offers a fully-stocked salad bar on week days, and a wide variety of options in the Grab & Go section such as specialty sandwiches, heat & eat options and fresh fruit.

Benedict mentioned that she is more than happy to receive any suggestions or recommendations on additions to weekly menus.

“I love receiving suggestions for any meals,” Benedict said. “Please let us know how we can serve you better.”
