Columbus Community Hospital Welcomes New Community Outreach Specialist

Columbus Community Hospital welcomes Patricia Castro as its new community outreach specialist.

Castro graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in communication and journalism with an emphasis in community development from the Universidad de La Sabana in Bogota, Colombia. She completed her Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in community development from the University of Nebraska Omaha. She has also completed coursework at the University of Quebec at Montreal, the University of California-Irvine, the National School of  Anthropology and History in Mexico and the University of Copenhagen.

“Patricia is a truly gifted professional with much to offer to our growing multicultural community,” said Amy Blaser, vice president of business development and physician relations.

Castro has worked in a variety of roles within Nebraska and internationally. Most recently, she was appointed to the Nebraska Commission on Latino-Americans. Her appointment will complement CCH’s work in that area, as the hospital was recently named a member of the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Castro’s previous experiences include her time with Catholic Charities, the Siena Francis House, Creighton University Medical Center, the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the United Nations Development Program, OXFAM, the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, and Public Relations Without Borders.

“She has a deep understanding of diversity and multicultural populations, which will help her improve the health of the communities we serve through outreach,” Blaser said. “Patricia also has extensive experience in working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, economic, social and educational backgrounds.”

Patricia will work directly with the community to provide the best possible care for everyone in Columbus and the surrounding area. She is enthusiastic and eager to contribute to building healthy and inclusive communities through information, education, advocacy and empowerment.
