CNOS Dermatology Reminds People to Limit Exposure, Keep Regular Checkups

As the weather starts to get nicer and people spend more time outdoors, CNOS Dermatology reminds you to stay safe with your skin exposure.

“When outdoor activities begin, it’s a good idea to slip on clothes to cover from the sun,  slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat for protection, and seek shade and slide on sunglasses,” said Dr. Kuwahara, Dermatologist at CNOS.

Anyone can develop skin cancer, but certain factors increase your risk. Things like excessive sun, having fair skin, a history of sunburns, having a lot of moles, a family history of skin cancer, radiation exposure, or a weak immune system all can increase your risk. That’s why keeping regular checkups is so important.

CNOS will review your medical history and complete a thorough skin evaluation,” said  Kuwahara. “We will remove any suspicious-looking tissue and send it to a lab for analysis  to determine if you have skin cancer.”

In the event skin cancer is diagnosed, your doctor creates a personalized treatment plan that may include freezing, chemotherapy or lasers, depending on the severity. Your doctor might suggest more than one skin cancer treatment to ensure all the cancer is removed.

Don’t let easily treatable skin cancer progress to the point it becomes serious or even deadly. Schedule a skin exam today.
