CHI Health Mercy-Council Bluffs Welcomes Kristen Blum as New President
Kristen Blum
CHI Health Mercy-Council Bluffs is proud to announce Kristen Blum as its new president, effective September 29. Kristen brings over a decade of experience with CHI Health, where she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to the communities we serve.
Kristen has made significant contributions during her time at CHI Health, including spearheading the launch of the CHI Health Transfer Center. Under her guidance, the center expanded its reach, providing critical support across Nebraska, Southwest Iowa, and North Dakota. Her leadership was particularly vital during the COVID-19 pandemic when she played a key role in establishing a statewide transfer center to ensure that crucial resources were available when needed most. Most recently, Kristen led the Virtual Health Services team, overseeing inpatient and outpatient telehealth services at over 20 hospital and clinic locations. Her innovative approach has helped bridge the gap in healthcare delivery, making quality care accessible to more patients across our service areas.
“I am confident that with her background and experience in this community and beyond, Mercy-Council Bluffs is in good hands with Kristen,” said Dr. Cary Ward, CHI Health Midwest Market President. “Her passion for improving the health of our patients, combined with her proven track record of leadership and innovation, will ensure our hospital continues to provide exceptional care to those we serve.”
Kristen has a Bachelor of Science in Health Services from Truman State University and a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the University of Iowa, but beyond her professional accomplishments, Kristen is deeply committed to the Council Bluffs community. She is a graduate of the Leadership Council Bluffs program and actively participates in various nonprofit boards and organizations in the area.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the team at Mercy Council Bluffs. It’s really special to be able to spend my professional time working to improve the delivery of healthcare in what we consider to be our family’s community hospital,” Kristen shared.
