The Center for Family Medicine proudly celebrates Dr. Charles Shafer as he marks 40 years of dedicated service as a Faculty Physician, recognizing a career defined by exceptional patient care, medical education, and an enduring commitment to the Sioux Falls community.
Dr. Shafer joined the Center for Family Medicine in 1986, beginning what would become four decades of service to patients and generations of family medicine physicians. His connection to the organization extends even deeper—he completed his residency training through the Center for Family Medicine in 1989, becoming one of the program's own graduates before continuing his career as a faculty physician and educator.
For 40 years, Dr. Shafer has balanced caring for patients with mentoring resident physicians, helping shape countless family medicine doctors who now practice throughout South Dakota and across the country. His passion for teaching, commitment to comprehensive family medicine, and compassionate approach to patient care have made him a respected leader among colleagues and former residents alike.
