BIO Girls Teams Up With BCBSND Caring Foundation For The BIO Girls’ Annual Find Your Kind 5K & Youth Run

The 2021 North Dakota Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that 1 in 8 North Dakota girls has attempted suicide.

Low self-esteem is one of the strongest predictors of emotional and behavioral issues. This is why BIO Girls is so important. By building self-esteem in girls, BIO Girls is proven to be a preventive approach to many of the mental health issues girls are facing. Seven out of 10 BIO Girls participants experience increased self-esteem and 50% of BIO Girls participants experience decreased anxiety.

The Find Your Kind 5K, hosted on Wednesday, May 15, is a community event that celebrates local BIO Girls program participants, while also raising awareness about the importance of mental health during May’s mental health awareness month.

This year, Find Your Kind 5K is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Caring Foundation.

“BCBSND Caring Foundation proudly supports BIO Girls and is excited to be the presenting sponsor for their 2024 Find Your Kind 5K, as we recognize their transformative impact on adolescent girls,” said Amber Blomberg, BCBSND Caring Foundation Executive Director. “Through participation in this noncompetitive event, girls are experiencing significant boosts in self-esteem, confidence, setting goals and embracing new challenges. Total health is a way of life and BIO Girls is on a mission to do just that. Their inclusive program is reaching girls of all demographics across the state and is fostering success through lessons in mental wellness, healthy relationships, leadership and kindness. BIO Girls is not just a program; it’s a catalyst for positive change and shaping resilient, empowered and confident young women across North Dakota.”

One hundred percent of the event proceeds from Find Your Kind 5K support the BIO Girls mission of improving the self-esteem of adolescent girls.

The event will start and finish on the Microsoft Campus, located at 3900 Great Plains Drive in Fargo, ND. Kicking off at 6 p.m. is the Youth Run. For ages 12 and under, the Youth Run is a half mile in distance. The community 5K will begin at 6:15 p.m. and is for all ages.
