Avery Dakan Named Good Samaritan 2026 Caring Kind Award Recipient

Avery Dakan, MSW

CHI Health Good Samaritan recently honored Avery Dakan, MSW, as its 2026 Caring Kind Award honoree. Recipients of this prestigious award go above and beyond the call of duty displaying outstanding compassion, collaborative teamwork and an unwavering commitment to professional excellence. Dakan, a care coordination social worker, has dedicated her service to Good Samaritan and the region for more than three years.

Annually, one employee is selected from staff nominations to represent Good Samaritan at the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) Annual Convention. NHA has paid tribute to more than 2,000 of Nebraska’s most caring and dedicated healthcare workers since 1979 at the event.

The following are excerpts from Dakan’s nominations:

  • Avery has a knack for building trust and creating a safe space, even during the most traumatic situations. Her patients and their families consistently tell us they feel seen, supported and cared for.

  • Avery goes above and beyond, extending her care well past her scheduled shifts. She's even volunteered her personal time, coming in on her days off, just to be there for patients during their critical moments. She's incredibly proactive, always anticipating what someone might need and providing support.

  • Avery is that steady, comforting presence offering crucial emotional guidance that makes all the difference. And she collaborates seamlessly with other support services like pastoral care and counseling to make sure patients and families get the holistic care needed.

  • Avery embodies the spirit of a 'Good Samaritan.' She leads with compassion and comfort and her selflessness is remarkable. She offers her personal resources and support without a moment's hesitation. She’s a real gem, and we're so lucky to have her on our team!
