246 second grade students in Yankton will be receiving a new bike helmet thanks to Yankton Medical Clinic and the Yankton Rotary Club, with assistance from Ace Bike & Fitness in Yankton. Dr. David Withrow, Pediatrician at YMC, will be doing a brief presentation for the students and then each student will be fitted in their new helmet.
Bike Helmet Day began approximately 20 years ago when Dr. Withrow wanted to reach the local youth and stress the importance of wearing a bike helmet. Local Yankton police will be present to say a few words to the kids. Volunteers from Yankton Medical Clinic and the Rotary, along with Ace Bike, USD Med Students, and the police, will help fit the helmets.
Dr. David Withrow, members of the Rotary, Yankton police and Yankton school system will be present and available for an interview.
