Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM (Central)

Health care organizations recognize the importance of including clinicians at their leadership tables. For hospitals, the traditional medical staff leadership roles are no longer the only voices needed; for independent clinics, the business aspects of practice have grown in complexity; for integrated systems, the clinician perspective is necessary throughout the continuum of care. However, clinicians have little formal training or experience in dealing with administrative and business issues. This presentation will be conducted in a panel format with an experienced physician leader and administrators who will speak to the challenges facing physician leaders and the issues related to finding and grooming potential physician leaders.

Objectives:

  • The role of physicians in leadership positions

  • How to find potential physician leaders – what are the important attributes needed

  • The relationship between administrators and physician leaders

  • What ongoing support and training is important for strong successful physician leaders
