Associate Chair - The University of South Dakota
The Department of Nursing at the University of South Dakota (USD) invites applicants for the position of Associate Chair for the Sioux Falls site.
The Associate Chair position is a 12-month full-time administrative appointment. Some travel between the Sioux Falls and Vermillion campus is expected. The Associate Chair position should be a visionary leader who will be able to engage in quality improvement, foster program excellence, advance the mission of the department.
The Nursing Department is one of nine departments housed in the School of Health Sciences, offering a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing degree in Vermillion and Sioux Falls, RN-BSN online program, MSN and DNP online and Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia in Sioux Falls. The School of Health Sciences and the Sanford School of Medicine at USD share a mutual vision for interprofessional education and are both under the Division of Health Affairs.
The Associate Chair should be able to stay abreast of the advances and innovations in the field and work collaboratively with the Chair, the Associate Chair for Academics, and site directors and coordinators to provide strategic direction, vision, and leadership for developing and maintaining innovative and exceptional graduate and undergraduate nursing education that supports the mission.
Responsibilities include:
Provide oversight to the Sioux Falls campus.
Serve as a leader in continuous quality improvement. Manage projects effectively.
Collaborate with local and national partners and academic and professional organizations to ensure appropriate program goals are implemented.
Assist with accreditation processes.
Monitor and analyze student academic success data for continuous quality improvement. Work collaboratively with the Chair to implement departmental policies and procedures,
Participate in the recruitment, selection, on-boarding, mentoring and ongoing evaluation of faculty and staff.
Provide leadership and ensure optimal program site operations.
Represent the Chair as needed at professional, state, and university events.
Promote nursing education at USD by working collaboratively with external and internal stakeholders. Participate in student recruitment and activities as needed.
Assist in supporting faculty professional development needs.
Teach in the graduate and undergraduate program
Participate in scholarly activity which supports program success.
Complete other duties as assigned by the Chair.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate degree in nursing from an accredited institution and applicable nursing. credentials required. (Will consider PhD or doctorate in other fields if holds MSN degree.).
Current South Dakota license in good standing or has the ability to obtain such license.
Experience teaching in graduate and/or undergraduate programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Administrative experience with demonstrated leadership in practice or academic settings.
Documented leadership in nursing education.

The Nursing Department at the University of South Dakota is a dynamic, innovative, and unique program within a vibrant and growing School of Health Sciences that values interprofessional education. The BSN, MSN and DNP programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia (DNAP) is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). All faculty teaching the nursing courses are nursing credentialed and have expertise in their areas of teaching and or practice.
