UnityPoint Health St. Luke's Brings Robotic Lung Biopsy to Sioux City
Patients in Siouxland have access to advanced robotic-assisted lung biopsy technology right here in Sioux City through the Ion endoluminal system at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's.
The Ion system is a robotic-assisted platform designed to help physicians obtain tissue samples from deep within the lung using a minimally invasive approach. The technology allows for greater precision when evaluating suspicious lung nodules and can help support earlier diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer.
"One of the greatest benefits of this technology is that patients can receive advanced diagnostic care close to home," says Sandeep Gupta, MD, pulmonologist with UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's. "In the past, some patients may have needed to travel to larger cities for access to this type of procedure. I’m very proud we are able to offer that expertise and technology right here in Sioux City."
The Ion system features an ultra-thin, highly maneuverable catheter that allows physicians to navigate deep into the peripheral lung. Its stability and precision help improve access to small or difficult-to-reach lung nodules while minimizing the need for more invasive procedures.
"Our goal is to provide patients with the highest level of care without requiring them to leave the community they call home," says Jane Arnold, president of UnityPoint Health – Sioux City. "Offering advanced technologies like the Ion system helps ensure Siouxland patients have access to innovative care, expert providers and leading-edge diagnostic services right here in Sioux City."
Lung cancer remains one of the most common and serious forms of cancer, making early detection critical. By combining advanced technology with the expertise of our pulmonary team, UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's is helping patients access timely, minimally invasive diagnostic care close to home.
