UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Outpatient Therapy Awarded Grant by Variety – The Children’s Charity of Iowa
UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Outpatient Therapy Services has received an $11,735 grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa to fund the purchase and installation of an ADA-compliant, height-adjustable adult-sized changing table designed to support the children and young adults served through outpatient rehabilitation. The new equipment addresses a longstanding need for a safe, dignified space for toileting and hygiene support during therapy sessions.
“For kids like Shania, who’ve trusted us with their care for years, this really makes their visits easier, more comfortable and far more accessible,” says Jaimie Vacha, physical therapist and manager of outpatient rehabilitation services. “We’re so grateful to Variety for helping us bring this to our patients.”
The Variety grant funded the installation of the Pressalit 1000, a wall-mounted, electric height-adjustable adult-sized changing table. This addition now offers children and families a clean, accessible and respectful space for hygiene needs, replacing outdated or improvised solutions.
“A grant like this shows our commitment to caring for all patients,” says Kari Winklepleck, president of UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Foundation. “Something so simple can make a large impact on the care we provide.”
The department at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s provides rehabilitation services to patients of all ages across the Siouxland region, with specialized care for children and young adults experiencing mobility, sensory or developmental challenges.
The project was developed and submitted by physical therapists in collaboration with UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s Foundation.
