UnityPoint Health Dr. Ashlesha Kaushik Named Immunization Emerging Leader

Iowa Immunizes and UnityPoint Health are pleased to announce Dr. Ashlesha Kaushik has been named a 2022 Immunization Emerging Leader by the National Conference for Immunization Coalitions and Partnerships (NCICP).

Dr. Kaushik was one of six individuals recognized by NCICP for outstanding leadership, innovation, and collaboration in immunizations. The awards were presented Sept. 13, 2022, in Minneapolis. NCICP, which is sponsored by Immunize.org and Voices for Vaccines, is the only conference dedicated to collaboration and partnership to improve immunization update, educate our communities, and prevent the spread of disease.

Dr. Kaushik is the Pediatric Infectious Disease Medical Director and a physician with UnityPoint Health – Sioux City. She also is a founding member of Iowa Immunizes, serving as chair of their Scientific Advisory Committee which oversees the coalition’s educational efforts geared towards public and legislative education, media releases and legislative presentations.

She has been recognized for her outstanding and innovative contributions to the field of immunizations. Since the pandemic began, she has been providing expert COVID-19 training to providers across the nation and is actively involved in mentoring future physicians at Siouxland Medical Education Foundation for immunization education/advocacy. Dr. Kaushik has played a vital role in leading the coalition’s stance on important legislative issues related to immunization. She serves on the American Academy of Pediatrics – Iowa Chapter’s legislative committee as well, providing a unique specialist perspective for pro-immunization bills and challenging bills designed to increase vaccine hesitancy.
