UnityPoint Clinic Introduces New General Surgeon

Robert Cunningham, MD, MRCS, MPH, FACS has joined the team at UnityPoint Clinic® General Surgery and Gastroenterology providing surgery services for the Siouxland area.

"We are excited to have Dr. Cunningham join our UnityPoint Clinic team to expand our surgery services,” says Jane Arnold, president of UnityPoint Health – Sioux City. "We are proud to be growing our specialties to meet the healthcare needs of our community."

Dr. Cunningham received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. He received his medical degree from there as well. He completed his residency at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska and his fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Obesity Medicine with a Master of Public Health degree from Imperial College London.

“My focus is to provide individualized care to each patient and their disease,” says Dr. Cunningham. “I strive to provide high-quality care to each patient, tailored to their specific needs and desires.”

Dr. Cunningham comes to UnityPoint Clinic most recently from AdventHealth in Lenexa, Kansas. He specializes in foregut, general and bariatric surgery.

Dr. Cunningham joins the general surgery team of Matthew Gawart, MD, Taylor King, PA-C, Sunu Philip, MD, FCS(SA) FRCSC and gastroenterologist Ben Pottebaum, DO, and will be located at 2730 Pierce Street in Sioux City.
