UnityPoint Clinic Introduces New Gastroenterolgy Services and Team

Ben Pottebaum, DO and Morgan Hemer, ARNP have joined the team at UnityPoint Clinic® General Surgery providing gastroenterology services for the Siouxland area.

"We are excited to have Dr. Pottebaum and Morgan Hemer join our UnityPoint Clinic team in order to provide gastroenterology services to our community,” says Jane Arnold, Senior Vice President of Operations and Regional Vice President of Ambulatory Operations at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s. "We are proud to be growing our specialties in order to meet the healthcare needs of our community."

Dr. Pottebaum received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He received his medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. He spent six years at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, Colo. where he completed his residency and fellowship in gastroenterology. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

“The care I provide is individualized to each patient and disease,” says Dr. Pottebaum. “I strive to provide high-quality care to each patient, tailored to their specific needs and desires.”

Hemer attended Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo. where she earned her master’s degree in nursing in 2020. Prior to that she attended Grand View University where she earned her bachelor’s in nursing in 2013. She is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

“I am excited to embark on this new journey with UnityPoint Clinic and join forces with an exceptional team,” says Hemer. “I am committed to providing personalized, patient-centered care that prioritizes overall health and well-being.”

Dr. Pottebaum and Hemer both come to UnityPoint Clinic most recently from Iowa Digestive Disease Center in Clive, Iowa. They have an interest in all aspects of gastroenterology particularly Cirrhosis, inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer screening, including colonoscopies.

Dr. Pottebaum and Morgan Hemer join Crystal Drayer, MD, FACS; Sunu Philip, MD; and Taylor King, PA-C at UnityPoint Clinic General Surgery, located at 2730 Pierce Street in Sioux City. Dr. Pottebaum will begin seeing patients starting September 11 and Hemer will begin on October 9. UnityPoint Clinic is part of UnityPoint Health® which also includes UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s and UnityPoint at Home®.
