Termansen Appointed To State Addiction And Prevention Board

Kari Termansen, an instructor in the University of South Dakota Department of Addiction Counseling & Prevention, has been appointed by Gov. Kristi Noem to the South Dakota Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals (BAPP).

Termansen will serve a term of nearly three years on the board, whose mission is to provide a foundation for the continuing development of addiction prevention practitioners in the field. The BAPP, which is affiliated with the South Dakota Department of Social Services, also sets standards of professionalism in the practice of addiction counseling and prevention services; issues and renews certificates and licenses; and investigates complaints and determines disciplinary action.

With 15 years of experience, Termansen has worked in and with several treatment agencies throughout the state serving individuals in South Dakota. “I take pride in being a part of this professional community,” she said. “It has been impactful to me throughout my career, as I care deeply about walking alongside individuals wanting to make changes regarding their substance use.

“I am honored to represent USD Addiction Counseling & Prevention,” she continued. “The relationships built with the agencies represented on the board will be valuable for guiding USD students entering the workforce after graduation, and in turn, USD will be able to better serve the needs of the state with training and guidance. I hope my experience and input will be valuable to individuals our state serves as well as addiction counseling professionals in the field.”
