Reflections on 33 Years in South Dakota Medicine
In many ways, H. Thomas Hermann’s 33 year career in South Dakota medicine was not unlike that of other small-town family physicians. Since 1987, he cared for grandparents, delivered hundreds of babies, and was on call to the ER for 24-hours at a time. He watched partners come and go, cared for multiple generations of some families, and took the lead in community projects.

Avera has earned national recognition as a technology leader as it was named to the list of Health Care’s Most Wired for the 18th time. The list is based on an annual survey released by the American Hospital Association. Avera received “advanced” designation. It was the sole South Dakota- based health system to receive the Most Wired Advanced Award.
Regional Upgrades Cancer Treatment Technology
Rapid City Regional Hospital’s Cancer Care Institute has upgraded its radiation treatment technology. As of April, CCI houses one of the newest TomoTherapy treatment systems in the world.
Art Panels to Improve the View for Cancer Patients
